The Maryott
The Maryott is a fake brand I created for myself. Since moving out in 2024 and living on my own, I host my niece and nephews for at least one night a month so their parents can have a date night. My only stipulation for doing this is that my older sibling give me adequate warning ahead of time, in case I already have plans that day. Being the witty smart aleck that she is, said sibling has started referring to my home as a knock-off version of the well-known Marriott hotel. Because of this joke's persistence, I became inspired to create this logo and brand.
"Dinner, Movies, & Cats." The brand's mantra is short and concise, listing everything my niece and nephews can expect at my home. It is because of this mantra that I decided to incorporate three elements: the Art Nouveau style, film reels, and cats. Art Nouveau has always gone hand in hand with movies, and for me, due to how intricately linked it is with the beginnings of cinema and its persistence in the decor of modern theaters. (Although, honestly, I am a sucker for a beautiful Art Nouveau piece.) The Film reel notches are to deepen the link with movies without modernizing it too much and keeping with the Noveau aesthetic. The cat is the focal point of the main logo because, well... I have three cats. (It wasn't on purpose, it just happened.) My niece in particular loves my cats and is excited to see them every time she comes over, so that needed to play an important role in at least one part of the making of this.
I plan on having shirts made for myself and my family, but until then, I have a mockup as a placeholder.
